Debut! (NW ARTS WEEKLY) What the NW is saying about the 'Book of Mormon'!

This is a new column that will showcase Arts events in the Pacific NW; reviewed and covered by other outlets in the NW. This Week we Highlight the 'Book of Mormon', now Playing at Seattle's Paramount Theater through January 20th.

The Book of Mormon is a religious satire musical with a book, lyrics, and music by Trey Parker, Robert Lopez, and Matt Stone. Best known for creating the animated comedy South Park, Parker and Stone co-created the music with Lopez, who co-wrote and co-composed Avenue Q. The show lampoons organized religion and traditional musical theatre, reflecting the creators' lifelong fascination with Mormonism and musicals.

THEATER RE-view: Million Dollar Quartet Tour, is "MOM-APPROVED"!

You couldn't asked for a better time in Seattle for the stop on the National Tour of "Million Dollar Quartet" with it falling on the week of Mother's Day. Many brought their Moms, including myself, and a majority of the audience consisted of ages 50 to 70.  My Mom was also celebrating her 68th Birthday this week and for the first time I was able to get my mom up to Seattle from rural Oregon, alone and away from the red-neck step-father! My mom is a Major Elvis fan and appreciates the music of Jerry Lee Lewis, Johnny Cash and Carl Perkins. The fact this was based on a real-life event made this even more intriguing.

THEATER RE-view; 'Cats', Better Than Ever!

Nearly 20 years ago, I saw my first Broadway show on Broadway. My Pal, Bill and I went to the Half-Price Ticket Booth in Times Square and picked up tickets for 'Cats'. It wasn't my first choice and was unfamiliar with the works of T.S. Elliot. The show back then, was strange and was performed In The Round. The elevated platform was in the shape of a Spaceship, The songs were Not memorable and the Dancing was OK. Flash-Forward 20 Years Later and after being off Broadway for a decade, "Cats' is on a 30th Anniversary National Tour and has arrived at Seattle's Paramount for this week Only.
