(EDDIE's view) ReCap of RDR Season 5, Week 1!

RuPaul’s Drag Race Season Five has finally arrived, with fourteen queens all fighting to be America’s Next Drag Super Star. And after watching the first episode, I think there’s a strong possibility we may see our first ever plus-size Drag Super Star crowned. But I’ll get to that in a minute.

As is the custom, the first episode opens with the ‘meet & greet’, and ‘controversy & drama’. This season’s big controversy is Alaska (29 - Pittsburgh, PA). Alaska is partners with Season Four winner, Sharon Needles. And in my opinion, Sharon Needles is the only reason she’s a contestant on Season Five. After watching Alaska through this first episode, I can see why the producers never chose her to be a contestant four seasons in a row. It’s no big secret that both Sharon and Alaska are recovering addicts. And it’s obvious that Alaska is heavily medicated. Lithium probably, maybe Xanax, but definitely something. Alaska’s entire demeanor is dry and muted, lacking that sparkle I see in every other girl on the show. Alaska is definitely this season’s ‘mercy’ contestant.

On September 29, 2012, I had the pleasure of attending the Bellevue Collection’s Front Row Fashion Show sponsored by Vogue, and benefitting the Moyer Foundation.  And let me tell you, with the tiered seating, you could not find a bad seat in the house.  The lighting, the music, the models, the fashions, it was all fabulous. Well, not all of it, but I’ll get to that in a minute. The show was hosted by Anne Vincent of Vogue and Style Icon, Lawrence Zarian.

Eddie RE-views 2 Gay Films at SIFF 2012, 'Remington and Curse of the Zombadings'; 'Prime Time Soap'!

The 38th Annual Seattle International Film Festival is here. It will be running from May 17 - June 10. I had the opportunity to pre-screen and review two gay films that will be showing this weekend. The first, ‘Remington and the Curse of the Zombadings’ (directed by Jade Castro) is a definite hit with me. The film is a crazy, campy, comedic, horror flick that definitely can not be mistaken for a B-movie. I had my suspensions. I thought, ‘not another gay zombie movie’. Instead, I was happily surprised with an original storyline and plot, terrific acting, and the fiercest Filipino voodoo drag queen I ever did see.

FILM RE-view: "Ten More Good Years. Do You Have Them?"

 On 3/19/2012, I went to a screening of ‘Ten More Good Years’. It was held at the Seattle City Hall. The event was organized by Aaron McCartney, and sponsored by SEqual and the City of Seattle LGBTQ Employee Association. After the screening, there was a panel discussion. The panelists were Michael Jacoby, (Director of ‘Ten More Good Years’); Mac McGregor (Seattle LGBTQ Commissioner); Louise Chernin (GSBA President); Brad Hoover (Seattle DSHS Rep.); and George Bakan (Editor of The Seattle Gay News).

RE-view: Project Red Dress was a Runway Hit!

Hats off to Eduardo Khawam.  He Directed the 4^th Annual Project Red Dress Fashion Show on Feb. 3, 2012 at the Fairmount Olympic Hotel in Seattle, and it was truly a stellar event.  Produced by Monir Zandghoreishi. There was music by Conductor Geoffrey Larson with the Seattle Metropolitan Chamber Orchestra.  Jim Dever hosted the event, and he was charming as ever.  And there was some fashion creations there to die for, but I’ll get to that in a minute.

Project Red Dress is Seattle’s annual fashion event that’s held to raise money for the American Heart Association’s Go Red For Women movement.  The designers are local student who are given $200 for red fabric and 16 hours to produce a red dress.  The winner is awarded a scholarship.

The top five dresses were all well made and sellable.  However, they were all dresses I’ve seen before.  But when you think they only had 16 hours to produce these high quality garment from scratch, then I have to give them snaps.  What impressed me was dresses that were different, and me me feel a way I’ve never felt before.
